Members Share Why They Love Their Northeast Life

LoveMyNELife_650x365The Northeast is an incredibly special and unique place to build a life!

In 2020, we asked to hear why you, our community members, love our beautiful corner of the world for a chance to win $500.

The heartfelt entries celebrated the many wonderful reasons why living and working here are so special – favorite memories, foods (lobstah, of course!), places, hobbies, and sayings…isn’t that wicked awesome?

Selecting only five winners was a real challenge!

Congratulations to Alicia, Kelly, Pamela, Brandon, and our very own, Elizabeth (Exeter, NH Branch) for sharing the most compelling reasons why they love living, working and building a life in the Northeast and on each winning a $500 VISA® Gift Card!

Here’s why they love their Northeast life –

Alicia

Originally from the Upper Midwest, Alicia came to Southern Maine back in her college days and has remained here for seven years. Alicia speaks about her love for being close to both the mountains and the ocean and “seeks adventure” every chance she can get and in every season! Alicia loves to fish, and you can often find her out doing so! When her Midwest accent isn’t butchering the several New England-isms, (her favorite being “whhicked”), she admits she doesn’t have a single favorite place, but she does have a favorite memory! Alicia was proposed to on Abbott Mountain in 2018 the day after Thanksgiving!

Kelly

Kelly admits that her move from Queens, New York to Dover, New Hampshire 22 years ago, was not easy! The things that she originally disliked about New Hampshire eventually became her “absolute favorite”. To name a few, she loves the local farms and their wares, the winding scenic roads, the fresh air and open space, the wildlife, and all the outdoor activities you can pursue. Her favorite places include the Kancamagus Highway and Mount Washington in New Hampshire, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Bar Harbor in Maine, and the list goes on! Her favorite seafood dishes run right off the page! It’s safe to say this “city girl” has fully embraced the New England lifestyle and has found her “home”—she wants to clarify that while she enjoys Red Sox games, she is still a Yankees fan!

Pamela

Pamela currently lives in Marlborough, New Hampshire. She gives credit to the beauty of all the seasons, but is deeply inspired by springtime in New England. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, she sees the beauty of nature all around her. One of her favorite pastimes is writing and illustrating children’s books, some of which have themes of New England.  She is currently working on eight books and hopes to publish those, along with her poems someday.  Another pastime is photographing and painting scenes of both New England and the Amish country, PA, the latter in which she has also lived.

Brandon

Brandon has lived near Portsmouth, NH for nearly his entire life (except for brief time he spent in Hawaii).  He admits that through his travels, “there is no place like home”. Brandon talks about the nostalgia of playing with neighborhood friends, and being a part of a tightknit community. He speaks of his love for the four seasons—especially after living in an exotic place—and how much joy it brings him to go swimming in the various lakes and rivers in the summer, hiking in the fall, and ice skating in the winter. Lastly, he wants to make it abundantly clear the best carbonara you will ever eat is at Ristorante Massimo, in Portsmouth, NH. We couldn’t help but pull this quote from him, “To those that do not live here, come check it out… The people here are kind, and the food is excellent. To those that do live here, cherish every moment. For life is a gift, and what a gift to live in such a beautiful place in the world.”

Elizabeth

For our employee winner, we asked what our employees love about the Northeast and also their Northeast Credit Union Community! Elizabeth has been a part of the Northeast Credit Union Family/Team for 12 years. She began as a teller and is now the Assistant Branch Manager at our Exeter, NH branch! She has many favorite memories through the years but what is most special to her is that she has “been able to witness a lot of big life events for so many people”. Working for Northeast Credit Union has allowed her to meet so many amazing people—employees and members. She values the trust of her members and cherishes their stories dearly.

Here at Northeast Credit Union, we strive to wear “Northeast” with pride. We want to be a representation of what the Northeast is to you and others around the world. We take our mission to help our members and serve our community seriously. The Northeast is our beautiful home and we are proud to be a part of it.
