It's Flannel Time!

As much as we all love summer, there is something exciting about autumn that you just can’t deny. You’re no longer sweating 24/7, you get to enjoy pumpkin-spiced everything, and let’s not forget one of our personal favorites – flannels! Okay, so not everyone is delighted about over-sized plaid, but it’s a safe bet that you are transitioning out of your sandals and into your fall attire. If you’re someone looking to spice up your wardrobe, you may be planning a shopping trip sometime soon. Trying to stay on budget AND on trend? Here are some tips:

Try thrift stores
Do a lot of the new trends look familiar? It’s because they’re not new – they’re coming back! A lot of styles that are marketed as ‘new’ are usually pretty retro, and you might be able to find some pretty great pieces at your local thrift store. Don’t give up after one trip; there are new arrivals every day. Be patient and you may just find exactly what you’re looking for – at less than half the price!

Layer up
Fall is the perfect time for jackets, sweaters, scarves, vests, and other awesome ways to make more than one outfit out of each piece of clothing. Stock up on basics that you can repurpose in different ways, and grab some smaller accessories rather than big statement pieces. It’s better to spend money on something you’ll get a lot of use out of, rather than buying something fabulous that you may only put on once a month at most.

Price shop online
Are you in the market for new boots? Try searching around in person, get the right size, style, and brand that you like – then look online! Chances are, you might be able to get a better deal. Some sites, such as Amazon, will let you set up price alerts in case something goes on sale. Other sites like Groupon may have more than you expect, and it’s changing every day! Better yet, if you have a checking account with Northeast, you're eligible for discounts on thousands of local participants with Benefits Plus*.

Seek out promotions
If you know you’re in the market for something – whether a new wardrobe, home improvement, décor items, or even getting ready for winter with some new gear – find the deals! Holiday weekends like Columbus Day are a great time for sales or sign up for emails at your favorite store to get notified about upcoming promotions.
