Northeast Credit Union Raises Money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Northeast Credit Union (NECU) has launched its new initiative, “Hats for Hope”, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of October, limited edition “Love Your Community” (LYC) baseball hats with pink embroidery were available for purchase at all 19 NECU branches for $15, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting My Breast Cancer Support of Portsmouth, NH, a non-profit organization that provides financial and emotional support to patients and families affected by breast cancer in Maine and New Hampshire. In September, NECU donated $1,000 to the organization’s Celebrate Pink 5K event, and then decided to further their efforts by creating the “Hats for Hope” campaign. The idea was put into action to build awareness and raise money for breast cancer which affects roughly 2,000 individuals in Maine and New Hampshire every year.
Jennie Halstead, Executive Director and Survivor shares her excitement, “Words can’t describe the conversations we have with struggling patients, who are so relieved to hear that we can help with a month’s rent, heating oil, groceries, a car repair or whatever they need most. Their gratitude and relief is palpable and they appreciate both the financial and emotional support we are able to provide.” Halstead continues, “Without NECU and others like them, we could not be there for these patients. We thank them for their generosity, understanding, and donations from the bottom of our hearts and for being a GIFT to local breast cancer patients and their family members!”
The “Hats for Hope” initiative raised $1,500 in one months-time thanks to the kind hearts of our members, staff and the tremendous efforts from our front-line staff.
