Northeast Credit Union Announces 2024 Scholarship Recipients

The Northeast Credit Union Scholarship Program has awarded a total of $40,000 to twenty-three student-members representing sixteen different schools throughout New Hampshire and Maine. The Foundation recognizes dedicated and passionate student-members for their community involvement and commitment to academics throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

These scholarships are designed to assist and encourage students pursuing accredited programs at technical institutes, 2-or-4-year colleges and vocational and trade schools.

The Peter J. Kavalauskas Memorial Scholarship awards $5,000 to an applicant who plans to attend, or is currently attending, an accredited program through a technical institute, vocational, or trade school. This year’s recipient, Austin Gorham of the Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH will pursue Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The Philip W. Sullivan Memorial Scholarship awards $5,000 to a high school senior in the top 25% of their class who shows a high-level of commitment to extracurricular activities and plans to attend a two or four-year accredited college or technical school after graduation. Malia Petelo of Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine has been awarded this scholarship for 2024 and will attend Bowdoin College.

The Bart M. Dalla Mura and Roger G. Marois Memorial Scholarships for $3,000 each were awarded to Kiley Gionet of Dover High School in Dover, NH and Hannah Shortt of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy in Northwood, NH respectively. These two deserving students have strong GPAs, volunteer regularly, and will attend a 2 or 4-year accredited college or technical school after graduation.

Elizabeth Prior from Conway, NH was this year’s deserving recipient of the Adult Achievement Scholarship for $2,000. This scholarship looks to reward a member looking to further their education to better their life and that of their family and community.

Additionally, “Nourish” Scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 were awarded to the below high school seniors who showed a commitment to their community while maintaining their academics. This year’s recipients include:

  • John Federico, Oyster River High School (Durham, NH)
  • Fiona Grace, Exeter High School (Exeter, NH)
  • Dexter Gubud, Dover Senior High School (Dover, NH)
  • Marlise Hyde, Oyster River High School (Durham, NH)
  • Maria Keegan, Acellus Academy (online)
  • Margaret Maloney, Winnacunnet High School (Hampton NH)
  • Mykala McConaghy, Merrimack Valley High School (Penacook, NH)
  • Marlon Pinto, Portsmouth High School (Portsmouth, NH)
  • Gabby Puertas, St Thomas Aquinas High School (Dover, NH)
  • Katelyn Rice, St Thomas Aquinas High School (Dover, NH)
  • Elizabeth Roberge, Gorham Middle High School (Gorham, NH)
  • Alec Simoneau, Souhegan High School (Amherst, NH)

“Our scholarship committee reviewed over 200 applications from our student-members for this year’s program,” shared Dan Raposa, Executive Director for the Northeast Credit Union Foundation. “Each of the deserving recipients exemplifies what it means to enrich and nourish the lives others and their communities. We look forward to seeing the outcomes from these distinguished students and their continued commitment to make positive impacts to our communities.”
